It is easy to get overwhelmed when considering your bathroom tile design. There are many different styles, sizes and shapes that you can choose from. It can be a daunting task to decide which one will work best for your space and budget.

If you’re like most people, you probably don’t want to spend hours searching the internet for ideas and then having to wait months or even years until they are installed in your home. You would much rather have someone who has experience designing bathrooms come by and help you out. This saves you both time and money!

Here’s what you need to know about planning your bathroom tile layout, pattern and installation.

Tile Size

The first thing you should think of as far as size goes is the actual tile itself. This depends on how big your shower and bathtub are going to be. A rule of thumb is to use 2 tiles per square foot. If you aren’t sure about this, it doesn’t hurt to do some math!

You can also take into account the width of your sink and its height. Most sinks are approximately 36 inches wide, so if you plan to install a large vanity mirror over the countertop, leave plenty of room for the mirror, and possibly a shelf underneath it.

A good idea is to choose a tile size that is at least 8″ x 8″. When it comes to grout lines, a standard is 12″, but I usually go with 16″ because my clients tend to have very small hands. The last thing you want to worry about is getting a big mess on your hands while installing the grout line!

I’ve seen many people put in a grout line too narrow, which causes them to have to cut back their tile selection. This is not only inconvenient, but expensive.

The size of the tile is a matter of concern for the people. A person should try for the various sizes of eth tiles that are available. They can do the check comparison here to get the detail. After having the detail taking the future decision will become easy for the people. They can give  a try to the new and the best options.

Bathroom Tile Designs

Now on to the fun part…the designs! Once you figure out the size of your tile and where everything else is going to go, you’ll want to start thinking about patterns. Patterns are what make the tiles look unique. Think outside of the box!

There are hundreds of patterns out there and each one can look beautiful once you find the right combination. Take a look around the Internet or ask friends and family for ideas. Also, if you are willing to spend a little more money, take a look at your local Home Depot or Lowes store. They often carry unique ceramic tiles that are hand-painted. These can add an extra touch to any design.

Once you have some ideas, it’s time to start sketching out the tile layout. Start by laying out all of the areas of the floor that you want to cover in tile. You may even want to draw out some rough sketches of the other parts of the wall such as moldings or cabinets. Then, you’ll want to start cutting out your tile. Be sure to cut a piece slightly larger than your final tile. This way, you won’t waste any tile (or money) when cutting.

Keep in mind that you should stagger the pieces of tile around the room. This will give a nice random appearance and also provide enough space for the grout lines. Now, it’s time to lay out the grout lines. Use chalk to mark out a grid of lines on the floor. Then, just place each tile onto the chalk marks and carefully level each one with the floor.

When you have done this, it’s time to move on to the next step. Using a sharp knife, cut along the lines that you made earlier. Try to stay within 1/16th inch of the line.

This step is called “grouting.” This is the process of filling the spaces with water mixed with sand. First, fill 2 buckets with warm water. Mix in 2 cups of clean white vinegar to each bucket. Next, take 2 teaspoons of fine sand and mix it into the mixture. Put the sand and water mixture into a container and shake well. Place the container near the edge of the tub and let the grout settle for about 20 minutes. After that, you can begin to pour.

Now, it’s time to move on to the part that most people dread…the trimming! Make sure that you have your tile up off of the ground. Now, using a utility knife, trim the edges of the tile to make the grout lines disappear. You must be careful to keep the knife flat against the tile to prevent scratches.

Once this is finished, it’s time to clean up the area. Take care to not damage the grout lines. Then, it’s time to apply the sealer to protect the tile surface. This keeps the grout lines from staining the tile.

Finally, it’s time to install everything. Start by putting down the grout lines. Then, put the tile down on top of the grout lines. This makes it easier to see where you are placing the tile. Before you put the tile down, try to get the corners square.

Next, lay the tile down and press firmly in the middle. This helps the tiles hold together better. Now, you can place the rest of the tiles.

Once this is complete, it’s time to add accessories such as faucets, mirrors, etc. Now, it’s time for the finishing touches such as adding towels, toilet tissue and soap dispensers. Finally, it’s time to remove all of the excess water and wipe away any fingerprints!

Congratulations! You now have a stunning bathroom that looks great no matter what style you chose. You know exactly what went into each tile design and you were able to avoid all of the mistakes that most people make. Now, enjoy your new bathroom for years to come!
